The former chair of CEMR’s committee of women elected representatives of local and regional authorities, Vicenta Bosch Palanca, has passed away on 30 December 2009.
Vicenta Bosch Palanca chaired the committee of women elected representatives from 2002 to 2008. She was the driving force behind the project "the town of equality" and later the European charter for equality of women and men in local life, to which some 1000 towns and cities have signed up.
With her famous sentence: “Women ask for half the sky and half the power,” she represented the municipal elected leaders in numerous international conferences. Her passionate interventions in New York in 2005 during the Beijing +10 meeting lead to the room declaring her the Mayor of World´s Women.
It is with her inspiration that UCLG and its European Section will continue working towards Beijing +15 and beyond.
