Pasto welcomes the global network of intermediary cities

Pasto

The Municipal Administration of Pasto, UCLG, the ILO and Findeter are organizing a forum on south-south and triangular cooperation and urban-rural policies for the promotion of decent work in intermediary cities from 28 to 30 January 2015. The event, which will serve to strengthen the international network of intermediary cities, is based on a methodology of peer learning and knowledge exchange. It will also contribute to the consolidation and commitment of cities in the development of national, regional and local urban-rural policies.

The city of Pasto is determined to lead the development of an intermediary cities network in Colombia, thus strengthening the global intermediary cities network in Latin America. In order to do so, Pasto has joined forces with the United Cities and Local Governments Committee on Urban Strategic Planning (UCLG) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), becoming part of the Intermediary Cities Working Group. In this role, they will promote activities that lead to reflections on the diverse challenges that intermediary cities face.

The global agenda on urban development will be re-defined during the United Nations HABITAT III Conference in 2016. This involves a re-orientation of urban policies and the opportunity to highlight the role of local governments, in particular intermediary cities, as agents of development in the global urban agenda, among others.

The full program of the event is available here.
