During the Executive Bureau and the World Council meetings in Haikou, members of UCLG debated the key issues that will define the international global agenda for local and regional leaders in the coming year. Around 400 representatives of local and regional authorities and their partners from 49 countries came together on this occasion.

Antioquia, Bristol, Christchurch, Dakar and Hangzhou are the winners of the 2014 Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation. The results were announced on Friday 28 November during the award ceremony.

Mauricio Rodas, Mayor of Quito
The World Council that met in Haikou on 26 November 2014 has appointed Mauricio Rodas, Mayor of Quito, Ecuador, Co-President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) until 2016.

Global mayors compact
On September 23, 2014, the Compact of Mayors was launched at the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit in New York City by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40), ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI), and UCLG.
The City of Haikou China is preparing to host the UCLG World Council in Haikou between the 23 and 26 of November, in the organization’s 10th anniversary year. At the World Council local and regional leaders will discuss the central issues defining the global development agenda in the coming years.
UCLG 10 years
The members of the UCLG World Council will meet between the 23 and 26 of November in Haikou (China), by invitation of the Mayor of the city of Ni Qiang. This year, these meetings are organized in conjunction with the Guangzhou Award for Urban Innovation ceremony.
The Awards Ceremony of the first edition of the "International Award UCLG - MEXICO City - Culture21" will take place on 12th November 2014. The events are hosted by Mexico City (Mexico).
