Mediterranean cities and civil society meet in Sfax for Migrants’ Right to the City
On 25 and 26 June, the Mediterranean City to City Migration (MC2CM) project brought together more than seventy participants in a peer learning event on mechanisms for cooperation between local governments and civil society in the field of migration. More than twenty cities attended this sub-regional meeting in Sfax accompanied by a dozen civil society organizations and as many representatives of international organizations. (+)
Strengthening links at the General Assembly of the Arab Towns Organization in Amman
The 56th General Assembly of the Arab Towns Organization (ATO) took place in Amman on 24 and 25th June with the representation of cities coming from all countries in the region. The Secretary General of UCLG and UCLG MEWA were special guests and followed the discussions of the ATO Board showing progress of numerous committees.  (+)
Localizing SDGs - 01/07/2019
One more year UCLG is glad to articulate the presence of the local and regional governments constituency at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) through the Global Taskforce. Over 100 local and regional representatives, including over 30 Mayors and Regional Presidents will bring the constituency’s voice to the HLPF in New York, highlighting the need for further commitments at all levels to accelerate the localization of the global agendas. The Local and Regional Governments Day (15 July 2019) and the Local 2030 event (16-17 July) will offer the local and regional governments delegation a space to showcase how local and regional governments are leading actors in shaping and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Launch of the World Observatory on Subnational Government Finance and Investment

The World Observatory on Sub National Government Finance and Investment, the first of its kind, is a joint initiative of the OECD and UCLG. It provides systematised information on decentralisation processes, territorial reforms, the powers and responsibilities of local authorities, and the nature and weight of their income, expenditure and investment in over 120 countries, including 23 LDCs thanks to the decisive contribution of UNCDF. The 2019 UCLG Peace Prize Jury

The second edition of the UCLG Peace Prize received an outstanding number of applications from cities and regions from all continents. The diversity of peace initiatives from local governments is inspiring. The different, contexts and approaches show how important the role of local governments is in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction in fragile contexts all over the world.
