UCLG stands in solidarity with those affected by the earthquake in Türkiye, Syria and Lebanon

United Cities and Local Governments and its members from all around the world stand in solidarity with the people of Türkiye, Syria and Lebanon who were hit by an earthquake on 6 February 2023, an event that took a high death toll in many cities in the area.

We also stand with all Turkish, Syrian and Lebanese members of UCLG, and all cities of the region who are facing this difficult challenge. We salute the relentless efforts of emergency service workers and of all local governments in the area that are, once more, on the front line of
this terrible crisis, trying to maintain their citizens safe.

The UCLG leadership calls for coordinated multi-level action, and for the involvement of local governments in the emergency plans so as to restore the living conditions and livelihoods of people in this difficult moment.

The World Organization stands vigilantly in this call, and remains at the full service of its members should there be any joint efforts to be undertaken.

UCLG would like to share our deepest sympathies and strength to those affected by the earthquake, and would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
