In view of the dramatic events that took place in the Refugee Camp in Moria, United Cities and Local Governments supports the Statement by Civil Society calling on both a humanitarian and human rights response.
UCLG members around Europe have offered to welcome migrants from Moria and call on national governments to respond positively to those offers.
They further call for EU member states to develop structural and sustainable responses to the needs of these refugees mindful of human rights. Solidarity is now, more than ever, imperative to protect our societies and guarantee dignity for all people regardless of where they come from.
