MC2CM project launches a call for targeted city actions in the Mediterranean region

Last week the Mediterranean City-to-City Migration Project (MC2CM) lead by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development  (ICMPD), UCLG and UN Habitat launched a “Call for Targeted City Actions”. The objective of the call is to award those actions that contribute to foster rights-based urban migration governance systems and advance social cohesion in the Mediterranean region. Deadline for submission is 27 March 2019.

Objectives of the call

Actions must align to at least one of the specific objectives of the MC2CM project:

A. Improving cooperation between relevant stakeholders in the field of migration at local, national, regional and international levels

B. Improving migration-related knowledge and data management in the field of migration governance

C. Establishing policy, legislative, institutional and regulatory frameworks in the field of migration governance

D. Promoting a realistic and fair narrative on migration and fostering intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding

To be eligible, actions should be implemented in at least one of the target countries of MC2CM (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya and Tunisia), preferences will be given to MC2CM cities but the whole country is eligible. 

Who can apply?

Local or regional government body, local or regional government associations or networks, international organisations, nongovernmental organisations and other private law bodies, established in the EU or target countries, working on a non-profit basis are eligible to apply.

Two virtual information sessions will be held to present the call and answer questions from applicants on 11 and 14 February (details to be announced soon). For further information about the call, please address your questions in writing (French or English) to [email protected].

Applications must be submitted by 27 March 2019, 12:00 CET to [email protected]. Applicants will be notified as of May 2019 for the Actions to start in July 2019.

Background of the MC2CM project

The MC2CM project aims to improve the inclusion and integration of migrants at city level in the Southern Mediterranean region, including through access to human rights. The MC2CM project was launched in February 2015 and will run for three years.

The project has entered its second phase (2018-2021) in which cities will use their unique role to enhance the benefits of migration, at the local and national levels.
