Mayors and Governors from around the world mourn the loss of Miguel Lifschitz as a result of COVID 19

The passing away of this outstanding municipalist fills us with sadness, the former Mayor of Rosario, former Governor of Santa Fe and former Vice-President of UCLG has left an important legacy in our movement.

As Mayor (2003-2011), Miguel stood out for his innovative social policies for the recovery of the city of Rosario after the deep Argentinean crisis of 2001. In 2004 he participated in the founding Congress of UCLG and was a member of our World Council. His international recognition earned him the Americas Award for "promoting gender equality and women's empowerment" in 2008.

As Governor (2015-2019) he contributed to the creation of the UCLG Forum of Regions, which he chaired from 2017-2019.

We will continue to build on his values of solidarity and inclusion with a global vision. UCLG mourns the loss of this friend and outstanding local leader and joins in the sentiments of his family and friends.
