The future of the municipal movement through our UCLG Manifestos

The UCLG Manifestos, developed in the framework of the UCLG World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, will be critical for addressing key subjects for our movement in the coming decade.

Our World Summit had an important focus on the co-creation, among all stakeholders, of the policy positions that our movement will adopt in the coming decade. The political inputs received at the Congress through the various tracks will influence our joint work as well as our day-to-day endeavours through their integration on our Work Plan. The outcomes of the Summit will further influence the broader constituency of Local and Regional Governments, enabling us to consolidate our joint voice before the United Nations, towards the continental mechanisms and above all, increase the ownership of the members and the Sections to the policy definition of the World Organization.

The Special Sessions that took place within the World Summit were geared at envisioning the future of themes that our organization is working on. Local elected leaders, partners, and members of the civil society developed ten thematic Manifestos with specific recommendations for the Network on topics and work areas that are seen as critical for the future of our movement, and the world.

The thematic sessions manifestos are, as follows:

The Manifestos are critical to understand where our movement will go next, and were inspired by the notion of co-creating happiness for the communities that we represent. UCLG has a mandate is to build on them and to mainstream their spirit in our daily work.

The Manifestos, together with the other policy outcomes of the Summit -the Political Declaration and the Outcomes of our Town Hall and Assembly Tracks- are critical to guide our movement towards the so-called implementation decade and to provide local and regional governments with the tools to leave no one and no place behind.
