The preparatory meeting of local and regional authorities took place in Barcelona on 15th February in the framework of the political process of the 6th World Water Forum.
Co-organised by UCLG and the World Water Council, the meeting counted with the participation of all Secretary Generals of UCLG (Metropolis, Europe, Africa, Middle-East and Western Asia, Eurasia, Asia-Pacific and Latin America), local and regional elected officials and associations (Paris, Bordeaux, Barcelona, PACA region, Sao Paulo state, Cités Unies France, AMGVF), international partners (UN-Habitat, French Foreign Office, FOGAR, World Water Council, ICLEI, NRG4SD, French Partnership for Water, Suez Environnement), as well as water agencies (SIAPP, Catalan Agency for Water, Loire-Bretagne Agency for Water).
The objectives were to discuss the format of the Local and Regional Authorities Days of the Forum, as well as the interactions with other levels of governance during the Local and Regional Authorities Days. The participants have also expressed their will to consolidate and reinforce the political dimension of the Istanbul Pact for Water.
