International Day for Disaster Reduction, held annually on 13th October, celebrates the way that people and communities around the world reduce their exposure to disasters and raise awareness about the risks that they face. This includes disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.

IDDR 2016 saw the launch of the new "Sendai Seven" campaign, which centres on the seven targets of the Sendai Framework, an advocacy initiative to encourage the implementation of key frameworks and systems with the goal of saving lives, reducing disaster losses and improving management of disaster risk. More can be read about the Sendai framework here.

Details of IDDR 2017 have yet to be announced. More information will follow shortly.
