During the UCLG World Council, mayors and partners addressed some of the key policy issues for the future of humanity as we enter the Decade of Action in three High-Level debates. The Ecological Transition, Addressing Inequalities, and Leading the way to the Recovery are strategic areas that are reflected in both the work plan of our World Organization for the coming year as well as in the renewal of our strategic documents and the development of our policy, research, and learning tools. These are the red thread that will inspire our action, feed our work plan and ensure we remain relevant for the members and the communities that need us. (+)
Facilitating a “Pact for the Future”: The role of the International Municipal and Regional Movement powered by UCLG

The 2020 UCLG World Council, hosted by the city of Guangzhou and the Chinese Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, addressed the priorities of Local and Regional Governments in the COVID era and the role that the World Organization would need to play in empowering the membership. It further commemorated the anniversary of the Durban Declaration and the election of the Presidency. (+)

As the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted, disaster risk is complex, systemic, and dynamic; just like the urban areas and communities that are exposed to it. Our members, local and regional governments around the world, need support and capacity to articulate what constitutes and shapes disaster risk and resilience, and to provide solutions that will not only reduce risk, but also build resilience to ensure equitable and sustainable development in their communities. Localizing SDGs - 28/10/2020
The world organization United Cities and Local Governments and the Barcelona Provincial Council have organized in October a series of 6 debates, held in the context of the online course "Localizing ODS: tools for local transformation", offered to more than 100 public officials from local and regional governments, regional sections and national associations members of UCLG, who have presented their local realities and the challenges for enabling a favorable local environment for the localization of SDGs. Housing - 28/10/2020
On October 9th, the «Housing rights: Looking back, looking forward » event was co-hosted by the Development Planning Unit (DPU), the Habitat International Coalition (HIC), the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG). In the framework of the Cities Are Listening process, the event contributed to the joint work for the right to adequate housing advanced in the UCLG World Congress’ Town Hall process last year.  (+)
